Talking Like a Pirate
Talk Like a Pirate Day was this tuesday, of course. Tuesday was also our first day of MOPS, which is a church program I volunteer at called Mothers of Preschoolers. The mothers come and bring their small children and we watch them and the moms get to enjoy a morning of speakers, crafts, and fellowship. I’m not entirely sure what, actually, because I’ve never seen what the moms do. Anyway, I’m in charge of Song and Snack time at MOPS now, so I get every group of the older kids and give them their snack and then we sing songs. I had three groups for Song and Snack and while they were having snack I asked them if they knew it was Talk like a Pirate Day. I was usually met with blank stares, but then I said what do pirates say? and in every group there was one kid that said “arrr!” But there was one little girl that could actually carry on a whole pirate conversation, and it was great! She knew “Ahoy Mateys!” and talked about walking down the plank and being “shark bait”, and on her own she said “Shiver me timbers!” That was the last straw and I just laughed hysterically.

Earlier this evening, I was having dinner with my grandparents and I happened to put my elbow in the butter dish. I didn’t actually get my elbow in the stick of butter, it was a much reduced stick of butter, but I did get some butter on my elbow from the sort of butter residue on the dish. My first thought was the scene from Harry Potter in which Ginny sticks her elbow in the butter dish because she has a crush on Harry and is nervous.
My first reaction was, oddly enough, to rub it in. Now I’m comparing my elbows, and I’ve been thinking. Could ordinary butter be the solution to dry elbows?
Betty Botter Bought some Butter
“But,” she said “this butter’s bitter.”
“If I put it in my batter it will make my batter bitter.”
So Betty Botter bought some better butter for her batter.
Back to School Desktop Wallpapers

As aforementioned, I was having trouble choosing a desktop wallpaper. I still haven’t chosen, but I did make a few. The following are Back to School themed wallpapers in two widescreen sizes. I’ve also decided not to make non-widescreen ones anymore. I figure that between the sizes they’re big enough to strech or center or crop if you want to for your non-widescreen display. I just know in a little while I’m going to be going; “What was I doing making all these square wallpapers?” The clipart is from PC Crafter a couple years ago.
Also, Jerrod recently started a new blog. If you are interested in games or gaming at all, check out his blog, mini-boss.

80GB iPod is Here
Yesterday morning, I woke up early to watch the engadget and ilounge websites reload every few seconds and find out the new apple announcement. I wasn’t really expecting the “true video ipod” but I was hoping for an upgrade in the ipod capacity, and I got my wish! The current ipods got an 80gb version, longer battery life, and some other stuff including games you can buy. I’m also excited about the new nanos which are so cute. I still have my pink ipod mini, and I’ve always really loved the look and formfactor and had hoped that they would come out with higher capacity versions. I understand why the black only comes in the 8gb nano, but shouldn’t the top paying nano get the widest choice of colors? I’m looking forward to the 80gb anyway. But I think the new nanos would be great for my mom, whose 1st gen blue ipod mini is acting a bit fussy these days. Also, I can’t believe how tiny the new shuffle is! I can’t wait to see it in person, just to look at the size. We can’t forget the price drop either. Good job staying with the times. See the new iPods.
Of course, iTunes 7 was also announced with alot of neat looking ne w features, and of course the movie store. One exciting thing about the iTunes store is that they upped the resolution of the purchased videos from 320×240 to 640×480 which is near DVD resolution. In fact, that’s the resolution I use when I encode my own videos. I haven’t upgraded my iTunes yet because of what happened last time. When iTunes 6 came out, I was so excited to see the new video store that I installed it right away, but it broke jhymn. So I’m not going to upgrade until I hear a bit more about it in use.

Finally Fall
The calendar may not agree with me, but it’s September, it’s after Labor Day, and the kids are back in school. To me, that means it’s fall. Whoever decided when the seasons start is in my opinion wrong anyway. I mean, they don’t start winter until like December 21st, only a few days before Christmas. I’ve been looking forward to fall because it was such a busy summer, and it was so hot. Although I rarely associate weather with seasons, it has gotten alot cooler than it was in about July.
So I say, it’s fall. I am having trouble, though, making/choosing a new desktop wallpaper for my computer. I have a recently aquired and beautiful 20.1″ widescreen LCD at 1680×1050 beautiful pixels. I just don’t like anything I’ve made so far and can’t decide what I want.
Also, I want to watch “back to school” themed movies or tv shows. I’ve already watched Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade. What other good back to school type movies ar e there? I am considering Sky High. I also listned to the audiobook version of the Beverly Cleary book Ellen Tebbits the other day, a book that my first grade teacher read to the class, and it was just delightful.

On Saturday we all attended my uncle Eric’s wedding. For those of you who don’t know and who are like me easily amused, he married a woman named Erika.
The wedding was lovely, and my sister did a great job taking the photos. Everyone enjoyed the slide show that I made for Eric and Erika, and I did great at the game we played to see which table would get to eat next. The band would play a song and then we would guess what it was. They were standards. I got to see a friend’s new baby also and he was just adorable.
Here are Jerrod and I at the wedding.
