The server is back up and running. Unfortunately all of the data was lost. We’re not exactly sure what happened, but it looks like we may have been hacked. Hopefully everyone will be able to get their sites back up without too much trouble. Of course I have to recreate everyone’s account, so hostees will get an email from me letting you know that yours is done. If you don’t have recent backups, one suggestion that may help you is checking the google cache. Just google your site address, and click on “cached” next to the search result.

It looks like all the data is gone. My techs at the datacenter reinstalled cpanel and they’re trying to find out what happened. We may have been hacked.

Meanwhile, cpanel has been reinstalled, so I’m setting that back up, and I’ll be setting all user accounts back up, and I’ll help get everyone back up and running as much as I can.

If you have backups of your hosted sites, you should get them ready if you can. The main thing most of us will probably loose would be databases, (for forums, etc). I know I haven’t backed up most of my databases in a while, so I’m right there with the rest of you. If you don’t have local backups of your website saved on your hard drive, here’s a suggestion; make a new layout to use when you come back, and say your site is being revamped. This will help give you time to rebuild.

For those of you who don’t know, all of my websites and those hosted on my server have been down for the past two days.

Initially I thought that the problem was just a simple matter of an expired domain name, but once that was cleared up, I began encountering a completely separate problem. I have been working to try to resolve it all day, and the technicians at the data center where my server is have done all they can to help. Initially we thought it was a simple connection problem and the server was power-cycled. With some more work I was finally able to log in via SSH but still couldn’t get into cpanel or connect via ftp. The problem may be worse than we realized, and the user accounts may be lost. I’m hoping that there’s some sort of mixup and everything can be put back to normal, but just in case we have to rebuild, everyone should get together what they do have and be prepared to set their sites back up again. I do not expect another message from them tonight, as it is midnight on a Sunday(here anyway). If this problem cannot be resolved promptly, I may have to buy a new server somewhere else. I am still hoping that we can restore everything on the server and get everything back up, but I am letting everyone know what is going on.

I apologize to all of my hostees for this inconvenience. I assure you that I am doing everything that I can to resolve this, and I will try to make it up to you all when we are back up.

I do, I totally Web 2.0 sites, the concept behind them, community, open source, web-based content, no paper! hooray! So I’m attempting to learn to use Ajax in the hopes of being able to use it for my own projects. Yesterday I got to print my own check from a logo I made. That was pretty fun. It had all the thrill of printing my own money, yet it was legal. Normally, though, I try to avoid printing. My uncle is getting married next month, and although I’m perfectly happy to design things like invitations, the actual printing of said invitations is dubious. I can handle printing ordinary card sized invitations, I’m just glad I don’t have to mail them. Mailing is the true evil. I already intend on building my own website software to run my future wedding site including invitations and RSVP system and everything in the hopes that I will not have to use paper invitations with actual mailing involved. I hate mailing things. Plus it’ll be alot easier when my guest list is stored in a MySQL database. I used to think I’d have to mail to the few hold-outs without email… but I can’t think of any now. Hooray!

Oh well, I love Web 2.0. It seems that every day there’s something else new and shiny to check out on the various tech and Web 2.0 blogs. Does anyone have a Vox invitation? I really fancy having one…

I’ve been wanting to put together a linux box for a while, and I’ve finally collected enough spare parts to do it. I decided to spice up the plain beige case I snagged from my uncle by also making this my first pink P.C.

Yes, I am a girl.

So, here’s the case I’m starting out with. Just a plain beige case, but pretty nice.

One of the main things that I was confused about was how to get the front off of my DVD drive so that I could paint it. Thanks to the helpful members here, I figured it out without much trouble after the tip that you need to open the drive

Here are my primered components

Next stop, pink paint!

I recently read an article about how great the Ma.gnolia API is and I decided to check it out. I’m glad I did because it was very easy. If you want to try it, just register go to Ma.gnolia Addons. I just used the Link Roll Generator and made one roll with a special tag for my “friends” list, and one with a special tag for my “links” list. I put the bookmarklet in my browser, so when I want to add a link to one of my rolls, I just click the bookmarklet and tag it with the correct tag. It’s very easy to style to match as well.
